A PARENTS GUIDE FOR HELPING THEIR CHILDREN THAT ARE TAKING MARTIAL ARTS TRAINING
PATIENCE—Many changes will be gradual and will take time, work and persistence.
CONSISTENCY—Help your child to be consistent in coming to class. This is one of the keys to seeing change.
JUDGMENT—Do not compare your Childs’ progress with other children. Children are all different. They mature at different stages and all have weaknesses in different areas. Age, personality, maturity, how often they come to class and how much they practice at home will determine their rate of progress.
DISAPPOINTMENTS—Children often get disappointed and frustrated in their progress. Try to turn these negatives into positives. Help encourage them to use their disappointments and frustrations to motivate them to work harder and to keep trying.
ABILITY—Do not be concerned with your child's level of ability. Ability will grow and prosper. Help them develop a good work ethic. Help them to be consistent and persistent. Encourage them to keep trying. Don’t allow them to make excuses and do not make excuses for their inabilities. Support the values taught in this Academy and your child will grow and prosper in their ability.
COMMUNICATION—Communication is very important. Talk with your child. Talk with Instructors and Staff. We are here to help, but we cannot read minds. We cannot control every individual that is here. Sometimes there are misunderstandings. Talk to us if there is a question or a possible situation you don’t understand. Please do not talk about these issues with other parents. This just causes confusion and gossip.
CHALLENGES—There will be challenges. Each rank will challenge the student to grow. Challenges exercise our faith, abilities, emotions and fears so we can grow, overcome and mature.
ATTITUDE—Attitude is very important. Life as we know it will never be fair. Build on positives. Have a positive attitude. Martial Arts teaches us how to deal with adversity in a positive manner. Not through emotions or fear or pride. Pride stops the learning process.
DIFFERENCES—Your child is not going to be exactly like you. They may not be as coordinated. They may not possess the same abilities or have the same IQ. All of us are different. Be patient. Encourage them, but don’t try to live through them.
MISTAKES—Don’t put pressure on your child to be perfect. They are going to make mistakes. Help them to learn from mistakes and to be responsible and accountable for them. As long as they try and keep trying they will learn and grow.
SACRIFICES—There will be sacrifices, both for your child and for you. There will be the sacrifice of time and energy. Students must learn to set goals; set a plan to be able to achieve goals and learn to be persistent and consistent in order to follow a plan so as to see the fulfillment of goals. Success is a daily process, not an end result. Change is a process that takes time and some learn at different rates than others. There will also be a monetary sacrifice, but the value of what your child will receive from our program will many times exceed the price. Your child is going to build the tools, abilities, values, morals and principles to live a life of honor, success and purpose. It is also going to be the best life insurance policy you can provide for your child.
Our Mission Statement in this Academy is to train and equip each student to become their personal best. To enable them to have the ability, faith and confidence to serve and live to their fullest capabilities the purpose and plan God has for them. This is our purpose........
